About Our School
Ynez School is well known for its tradition of academic excellence as evidenced by the recognition that it has received as a California Distinguished School in 2002 and 2005, as well as a California Title I Achieving School in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Along with an emphasis on academic development, Ynez School places a high value on the health of its students, receiving Bronze recognition in 2008, Silver recognition in 2010, and Bronze recognition in 2013 from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and the Let’s Move Active Schools award in 2014, for its efforts to promote a school environment that encourages healthy eating and increased physical activity amongst its students and staff. In addition, Ynez School was named to the California Business for Education Excellence Honor Roll for 2012, 2013 and 2015. In addition, in 2015, Ynez School’s eighth grade students topped the state in math scores on the first baseline California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) examination among statewide test results for 8th grade students in schools with comparable socioeconomic profiles.
Diversity is celebrated at Ynez School. The school’s population consists of students and staff with rich multicultural backgrounds. The staff believes that each student is unique and deserving of the best education that a strong and rigorous core curriculum in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science has to offer. The goal for every student is to meet or exceed California State Standards (CSS) for his/her grade level. Ynez has fully transitioned into the new standards and teachers receive on-going professional development in the implementation of said standards in order to prepare our students for college and careers.
The staff at Ynez School is both hardworking and dedicated to the success of its students. With many experienced and knowledgeable teachers eager to make a difference for Ynez students, a student-centered approach is implemented which provides the students with an atmosphere where their social, emotional health and intellectual needs are equally important.
Ynez School has been a beacon in the Monterey Park community for years. We, at Ynez, pride ourselves on actively involving the parents and community in an on-going quest for excellence. We believe in working together for the benefit of all of the students.
